The car

The first Mustang was not a new car underneath — it was a Falcon platform with a new body — but it was the first American car that let a buyer write the specification. The 289 two-barrel was the volume V8: 200 hp, a three-speed on the floor and a shell light enough that the engine never has to work hard.
